There is no single answer for every finished wall
Access depends on the assembly, existing materials, proposed method and condition of the space. Some projects use limited openings; others need broader access for preparation and installation.
A promise of no disruption should be checked against the actual work scope. Ask how the contractor will inspect and reach the areas that matter.

Separate investigation from installation openings
An opening made to inspect a concealed area serves a different purpose from the access needed to complete the work. Ask whether the quoted price includes either stage and who authorizes additional openings.
Agree on a process for documenting findings before the scope changes. This avoids confusing a preliminary visit with a fixed-price installation plan.

Ask why that method fits the assembly
Request an explanation of the proposed product and access method, including any limitations. Closed cavities, obstructions and existing material may affect what can be done and how the result is checked.
Do not choose solely by the smallest hole. Compare the contractor’s explanation of preparation, coverage, quality checks and repair obligations.

Plan protection and hidden-condition handling
Discuss dust containment, furniture, floor coverings, services concealed in the assembly and disposal. Ask what happens if the crew encounters a condition outside the agreed work.
Have the appropriate professional assess suspected hazardous materials before disturbance. Do not cut into finished surfaces to investigate on your own.

Write down the repair boundary
Identify who replaces panels, finishes joints, primes and paints. Confirm whether paint is limited to patches or includes a larger wall or ceiling, and whether texture matching is included.
Where a protective assembly is involved, ask the responsible professional to specify the required restoration. A cosmetic patch is not a substitute for confirming the assembly requirements.

Questions to resolve before work starts
Ask where openings will be made, what is included in the price, who approves changes, how belongings are protected and who completes the repairs. Keep the answers with the contract.
A clear access plan helps you compare installation offers and schedule the house around the full project, not just the day insulation is installed.
